Candidate Sketches

Alison Buckler, Nominee, Board of Directors

Alison, her husband Jesse, and their dog Bosun have been residents of AOTB for the past two and a half years. This past fall they welcomed their now six-month old daughter, Sophia, into the world and the neighborhood.  Alison is a member of the Association of Maryland Pilots and as such pilots cargo ships up and down the Chesapeake Bay. She graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 2002 and worked as a mate on oil tankers prior to coming to Maryland. Alison is currently the membership committee chair for AOTB.

Wilma Coble, Nominee, Board of Directors

Wilma served as President of the Association for five years, starting in 1981 when she was elected for three consecutive years and again in 1991 for a two-year term. She has also served as Chair of the Board of Directors for four years, 1985-1988. During her terms in office, many projects were successfully completed—to name a few: the long awaited construction phase of the Shore Erosion Project on the Bay side; the low profile bulk head and stone work on the beach and other erosion control projects on Fishing Creek; the underground water tank installed for the Fire Department at Newport and Myrtle Avenues, allowing improvement of Myrtle Avenue through the Special Community Benefit Tax, activated for the first time; publication of the newsletter “The PIER” which began in the early 1980s. Wilma has worked for the National Security Agency and as a teacher with the D.C. Public School System. She currently works in the family real estate business as an Investor and Property Manager of the company’s properties in Washington, D.C. and Arkansas. She is willing, able and ready to work once again for the community of Arundel on the Bay, the land of pleasant living.

Katie Jereza, Nominee, Board of Directors

Katie Jereza is the Program Director of Energetics Incorporated, a management consulting firm specializing in R&D and infrastructure protection for energy and water management. She currently assists the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in developing long-range plans and building partnerships with private and public stakeholders. She holds a MBA from Loyola University Maryland and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech. Katie moved to AOTB in 2006 after marrying Ken Freeh, a resident since 1993. Katie, Ken, their daughter Chloe, and dog Hadgi cherish having fun in the playground, greeting neighbors from our porch, collecting driftwood from the beach and parks, and most of all celebrating life at the impromptu and planned neighborhood parties.

Mike Lord, Nominee, Board of Directors

Mike Lord is an attorney who currently works for the Maryland Attorney General, supervising the State’s tort litigation.  He previously worked as an Assistant County Attorney with the Anne Arundel County Office of Law and served as Executive Director, Commissioned Officers Association of the U.S. Public Health Service.  A native of North Adams, MA, Mike graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and University of Virginia School of Law.  He served in the Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1995.  He and his wife, Shirley, moved to AOTB in 2004.  They have three grown daughters and three granddaughters.  Mike has served on the Board of Directors of Archbishop Spalding High School.  An avid runner, he was a member of the Board of the Annapolis Striders.

Andrew Grannell, Nominee for President

C. Andrew Grannell, Jr. (“Andy”) retired from public accounting in May, 2007 serving the last nine years of his forty year career as the Managing Partner of a large local firm.  Along with his wife of almost 42 years, Andy has been an AotB resident since October, 2004.   He is currently finishing his term as the President, Property Owners Association, Arundel-on-the-Bay and previously served as a Member of the AOTB Board of Directors and as Chairman, Newport Pier and Redwood Boat Ramp Committee.   Andy also presides over The Children’s Fund of Metropolitan Washington, a private foundation that provides grants to organizations attempting to better the lives of at-risk children in the DC Metropolitan area.   Additionally he is the Swimming Head Coach for Annapolis High School.   Andy enjoys swimming, golfing, boating and walking Amos, the family dog, around this beautiful peninsula that the Grannells have retired to.

John R. Moses, Nominee for Vice President

I have lived with my wife, April, in Arundel-on-the-Bay for 40 years.  We raised our three children in this idyllic community. Currently, I am enjoying being part of a group of highly motivated residents working with Mark Apter on a book recounting the 121 year history of Arundel-on-the-Bay.  We are now collecting narratives, documents and photographs from anyone who has them (see the ATOB website and PIER). I have served as vice-president for the past 4 years, have been on the board of directors and served one term as president. While our community has always been delightful, it has never, in my experience, been this peaceful.  In my opinion, the key to maintaining our tranquility is keeping the general public at bay while assuring waterfront privileges to all property owners.

David Delia, Nominee for Secretary

David J. Delia has resided in AOTB (with Margaret—his wife and best buddy for over 39 years) since his retirement in 2003, after 33 years with CIA as an Imagery Analyst Branch Chief.  When not traveling to distant parts of the USA and Europe, or simply marveling at the wonders of the Chesapeake, he continues to work “sporadically” with the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency as an analytical consultant, communications instructor, and mentor.  He received a BA from Hunter College, CUNY in 1969 and an MA from the US Naval War College in 1995. He has served the AOTB board in several capacities, including as its Chairman since 2004, is an occasional contributor to the PIER, and has been a strong advocate of non-confrontational cooperation and consensus building among our AOTB neighbors to achieve a safer, more secure, and environmentally exhilarating place to live.
