ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY LEGISLATION REGARDING SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT
FROM INSURANCE COMPANIES FOR THE COST OF TRANSPORTING INDIVIDUALS
TO THE HOSPITAL

March 16, 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen:

As you may be aware, Anne Arundel County Council enacted legislation last year paving the way for the County to seek reimbursement from insurance companies for the cost of transporting individuals to the hospital. In an effort to ensure that the most accurate and up-to-date information is available to our citizens, the Fire Department has developed a document that will hopefully answer many if not all questions relating to the proposed program. We are also aware that County Council continues to discuss this important matter and we are respectful of the process that they must follow in considering the impact of this measure. Having said that, we also believe it is critical to provide accurate information now rather than adopting a "wait and see" position.

The most important piece of information contained in this document is that no Anne Arundel County Resident will ever receive a bill for EMS Transport under any circumstances.

The Department has also developed a PowerPoint presentation and would be delighted to have the chance to come out and speak directly with interested groups. As there are over 200 community associations in Anne Arundel County, we would prefer to schedule sessions with the umbrella organizations to ensure that we are able to communicate with the greatest number of citizens at one time. However, we will absolutely speak to any group, regardless of the size, as time permits.
